On 12 September 2019, Prof. Guanghao Chen, Director of Chinese National Engineering Research Center for Control and Treatment of Heavy Metal Pollution (Hong Kong Branch) (the “CNERC”) attended the ceremony for the launch of China Everbright Green Technology Innovation Research Institute (the “Institute”). The Institute is the first technological research and development (“R&D”) institute of Everbright International Group outside the Mainland and positioned as the Group’s global R&D headquarters.

At the ceremony, the Institute entered a strategic cooperation agreement with the Chinese National Engineering Research Center for Control and Treatment of Heavy Metal Pollution (Hong Kong Branch). LI Xiaopeng, Chairman of Everbright Group; TAN Tieniu, Deputy-Director of the Liaison Office of the Centre People's Government in the Hong Kong SAR (the "Liaison Office"); CHAI Ngai Chiu, Chairman of the Board of the HKSTP Corporation; CAI Yunge, Deputy General Manager of Everbright Group; WANG Tianyi, CEO of Everbright International; and JIANG Jianxiang, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Educational, Scientific and Technological Affairs of the Liaison Office witnessed the signing of the agreement.

It marked the beginning of close collaboration between Everbright International and the universities in Hong Kong, a far-reaching initiative in sectoral collaboration of industry and academic institution in Hong Kong. According to the agreement, both sides will cooperate in R&D in wastewater treatment, sludge reduction and resource recovery, food waste treatment and recycle and others, fulfilling nation’s key demand in ecological environment development and implementing the Outline of Long and Medium-Term National Scientific and Technological Development Programme.
