A team of high profile delegation from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), USA visited the Hong Kong branch of Chinese National Engineering Research Center for Control & Treatment of Heavy Metal (CNERC), HKUST on June 22, 2018. The guests include: (1) Prof. Gene Block, Chancellor; (2) Mrs. Carol Block, Associate of the Chancellor; (3) Prof. Cindy Fan, Vice Provost of International Studies and Global Engagement; (4) Mr. Stephen Tan, Director, UCLA Engagement – Asia; and (5) Mr. Kevan Wilbanks, Special Assistant to Vice Provost. Prof. Guang-Hao Chen, director of the center briefly introduced the mission and goal of the CNERC and highlighted various research projects that have been carried out by team members to develop mainly “Innovative Wastewater Treatment Technologies”. The delegates were highly impressed to know about involvement of world’s leading water scientists with CNERC, and innovation of the SANI process which is successfully employed as a demonstration-scale in Sha Tin wastewater treatment plant in Hong Kong. Finally, the tour ended with a very interesting discussion on research works that have been conducted in the center, and potential future collaboration with UCLA.
