Prof. Guanghao Chen’s team has recently been awarded the Theme-based Research Scheme (TRS) project for 2019/20 under the theme of “Developing a Sustainable Environment” from the University Grants Council (UGC) of the HKSAR Government. Led by Prof. Chen from HKUST, this multi-disciplinary large-scale five-year project comprises 12 researchers from other four local institutions: HKU, PolyU, CityU and CUHK and two overseas institutions: TU Delft and UCT. This project aims at developing new methodology for high quality reclaimed water production from raw sewage, new process for energy-efficient, space-saving and sludge minimized sewage treatment, and new technology for high-value resource recovery from sludge. An integrated system will be developed and pilot demonstrated in this project.
