The Closing Ceremony of MAS AGUA PARA TODOS

The Closing Ceremony of a 3-year Project “MAS AGUA PARA TODOS (More Water for All)- Adapting to Climate Change and Mitigating Water Scarcity by Innovative Urban Water Management in Cuba”, funded by the European Union and UNESCO-IHE , was held on 23 Jun 2017. In this project, pilot plants were setup based on different water treatment systems including SANI process system (which stands for Sulfate Reduction Autotrophic Denitrification and Nitrification Integrated). SANI process is an innovative process developed by Prof. Guanghao Chen, Chair Professor at The Hong Kong University of Science & Technology and Director of Chinese National Engineering Research Center for Control & Treatment of Heavy Metal Pollution (Hong Kong Branch).

Prof. Chen said, “Under the coordination of Project Director Dr. Carlos Lopez Vazquez (UNESCO-IHE) and the efforts of HKUST installation team and the local operation team in Cuba, this 3-year project has been completed successfully. The project is highly praised, and the success of this project can act as the foundation for promotion and application of SANI technology in Cuba as well as other countries in Central and South America.”

The guests at the closing ceremony included Ms. Alexandra Valkenburg, (Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands), Virginie Coustet (on behalf of the European Union in Cuba), Ms. Yosmary Gil Leal(Director of the Water Division of the Ministry of Water Resources of the Cuban Government), and  Prof. Damir Brdjanovic (on behalf of UNESCO-IHE) and Prof Guanghao Chen etc.
